What are your hours?
Our regular office hours are:
Monday - Friday 8:30am -  4:30pm
Other times subject to physician availability

Where are you located?
The office is located in the Eastlight Building on South Street in Blue Hill, Maine. The Eastlight Building is adjacent to the Rite Aid pharmacy and The Tree of Life (food pantry), and is just south of the Tradewinds grocery store.

Do you make house calls?
Yes, house calls are available, please call for more information.

Do you take insurance?
Coastal Family Medicine of Maine is a fee for service practice and does not accept insurance. We do provide documentation for patients to submit to their insurance carrier for reimbursement. What does “fee for service” mean?

“Fee for service” medical practices ask that patients provide payment in full at the conclusion of their visit with the provider. Patients are then responsible for submitting all paperwork and following up on all correspondence with their insurance carrier for securing reimbursement. What forms of payment do you accept?

Patients may pay using cash, check, Visa, or MasterCard.

 

How do I get reimbursed from my insurance company?

Coastal Family Medicine of Maine does not accept insurance and it is the patient’s responsibility to submit and follow up on claims with their insurance carrier. Patients are directed to contact their insurance carrier’s customer service representative to obtain the correct procedure for claim submission. Coastal Family Medicine of Maine provides a detailed patient Invoice which contains the diagnosis and procedures codes pertinent to the visit.

 

What do I give my insurance company?

Coastal Family Medicine of Maine will provide an invoice to the patient at the conclusion of the visit which outlines the diagnosis and procedure codes pertinent to the visit.

 

Will I get all of my fees back from my insurance company?

Insurance companies have their own individual policies for reimbursement and the utilization of out of network providers. Patients are encouraged to check with their insurance carrier to determine the reimbursement rate, policy, and procedures.


What types of services do you offer?
Coastal Family Medicine of Maine offers care for patients of all ages for preventive and urgent care needs.

How many providers are in this practice?
Dr. Rice is a solo practitioner. There are currently no additional medical providers or staff.

Do you give immunizations?
Yes, we can provide immunizations. Please call for fees.  

Do you do sports physicals?
Yes, routine sports physicals are offered.

Are walk- in or same day appointments available?
Yes, limited walk-in or same day appointments are available.  Coastal Family Medicine of Maine will attempt to accommodate patients as the needs arise.

How long is the average appointment?
Appointment lengths will vary depending upon the nature of the visit and the patient’s requests. A simple follow-up visit or blood draw could be as little as 15 minutes, however on average appointments will be 30 to 45 minutes. As a fee for service practice longer appointments are charged a higher fee.

What if I need to get hold of a doctor after office hours?
If you have an emergency, please call 911 or go directly to the emergency room.   If you just want to leave a message for the doctor, you may call 207-374-5007 to leave a message.

Does Coastal Family Medicine of Maine provide care for patients admitted to the hospital?
No. Coastal Family Medicine of Maine provides outpatient medical services only. For more information please see our Patient Rights and Responsibilities Policy.  

Can Coastal Family Medicine of Maine take on the role of my primary care provider?
Yes, Dr. Rice is accepting new patients.

How do I sign up to have Coastal Family Medicine of Maine be my primary care manager?
Please call or stop by our office to schedule an appointment or to discuss transferring your care to Coastal Family Medicine of Maine.

May I utilize some of the services at Coastal Family Medicine of Maine even if I have a primary care doctor elsewhere?
Yes. Coastal Family Medicine of Maine is happy to provide urgent care services to any patient.   

What does the average appointment cost?
Appointment fees vary depending upon the length and complexity of the medical issue(s) as well as the need for any additional procedures or tests. A Minimum visit fee of $85 will be charged for the first 15 minutes of the appointment. Coastal Family Medicine of Maine wants to reassure patients who seek our care that all costs will be discussed before services are carried out so there are no “surprises.”

Can I get a referral to another physician from you?
Coastal Family Medicine of Maine does refer patients, when clinically indicated, to the necessary subspecialists.

What do I do once I get a referral? 
Patients will be given detailed directions as to how to proceed with their referral at the time of their visit.

Do you take care of my lab work?

Coastal Family Medicine of Maine can initiate all necessary medical and laboratory testing. Patients are given the choice of having their blood work obtained at our office or at the location of their choice.

 

Can I get prescription refills?

Established patients may make refill requests by phone, fax, or during a scheduled visit. Coastal Family Medicine of Maine will not prescribe or refill medications for patients who have not been seen and evaluated by at our office.

 

Can I get x-rays at Coastal Family Medicine of Maine?

Currently, patients are referred to outside radiology facilities for all x-rays, CT scans, MRIs, Mammograms.

 

How does a typical visit work?

All patients are asked to call ahead to verify appointment availability and to schedule an appointment. After arriving at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment time the patient is checked in and asked to review and sign the necessary forms regarding Coastal Family Medicine of Maine’s policies, fees, and treatment authorization. The provider will then initiate the clinical encounter with the patient. Treatment plans and associated fees will be discussed with the patient during the appointment.  At the conclusion of the appointment the patient will be provided with an invoice detailing the fees for the services and treatments provided.  Payment of these fees in full at the conclusion of the appointment is required- Coastal Family Medicine of Maine takes checks, cash, or Visa and Master card payments.
